Not many cars are Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupes, and of the handful of them, this stands out

For another example of a Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe chassis being built into an equally rare car, http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2010/12/home-built-shelby-cobra-daytona-was.html where an independant racer bought a chassis from Shelby, and built the car to race.

Speedfest starts tomorrow at North Island Naval Air Station, more racecars, more airplane and helicopter displays, and the "Military Pit Crew Challenge"

A big variety of factory race cars, NASCAR racecars, entreprenuerial racers, and drifters too

Race cars that haven't been here before were found in the Pits
and MINI's! About 8 Mini's are going tobe racing in the under 2 liter class (last year there may have been one)
Wander all over the pits, you will stumble across all kinds of cool things (I found the STIG)
 New aircraft displays!

the Military Pit Crew Challenge has teams from the Navy and the Marine Corps racing the each other to turn in the fastest time to change the tires and fuel a car... it's for bragging rights, and might become a coast to coast challenge.. totally safe, using water into tanks with pcv dump tubes instead of gas... then reusing the water for the next team. (safe, clean, reuseable)

So head over to Coronado Island if you are in San Diego, bothe Saturday and Sunday, and have a great time. Test drive Corvettes or Camaros, see the great big car show behind the grand stands, watch the races, check out the repairs and maintenance in the pits, and spot celebs.... Jay Leno's Big Dog Garage has at least one car racing, I've seen Carroll Shelby here in the past, Adam Corolla races every year... never know what you'll find at the race track

Stop if you've heard this one before, woman is given a 60's race car, she stores it for 30's years while she works at a Sears warehouse (after losing the car she suicides), because her dad gave her the car, because he was a bodyguard, to a music legend who murdered a woman.(Phil Spector) Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe CSX 2287's story

Yes, same car. Above is the 1964 Riverside race, from http://magneticbrain.blogspot.com/
in November 1965 when Shelby took it out of “retirement” to run at the Bonneville Salt Flats. They changed engines and tires, retained the Le Mans 2.88 gearing and they were ready. No special prep, no spare engine, minimal supplies. USAC really didn’t believe they were serious about running for endurance records. They were more than just a little surprised when drivers Breedlove and Tatroe clocked 1,931 miles, averaging 150 mph and breaking the record set by Bugatti in the 1936 Type 57G “Tank” . It set 23 national and international Stock Car Speed and Endurance records!

After Bonneville the first Coupe required three days of cleaning to get rid of the salt. Now a tired racer, it was sold and ultimately fell into the hands of record promoter Phil Spector who, after receiving many tickets, gave it to his bodyguard. The bodyguard gave it to his daughter who, in 1971, put it in storage in Yorba Linda, California. She kept it locked up, not allowing historians, collectors, or even Carroll Shelby to see it. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s it became obvious that this car was an icon and extremely valuable.

Once the world became aware that the car was in storage, and everyone pressured her to seel the car, an exotic car dealer, Spector, Brand and her boyfriend who claimed she had promised him the car. Plus there was a judge and litigation involved before it was over. After selling the Daytona, Brand willed the car to her mother and then committed suicide.

It's now in the Simeone Foundation Museum in Philadelphia.

there are other crazy stories in this big world of cars, this is just one of many. Read the "Hemi In The Barn" "Cobra in the Barn" and "Corvette In The Barn" books by Tom Cotter. Blows your mind how many of the ultra exclusive race cars, muscle cars, and sports cars have been left to rot and neglect for years and decades by owners that weren't interested in them

Home built Shelby Cobra Daytona was made when Shelby sold chassis CSX2130 to an independant racer. I wonder if it was the only one

September 26, 1964 - The annual Autosport Three Hours, at the Snetterton track is the tenth and last round of the British Championship and the fifth time that Ford and Cobra stay eye into eye.
Eventually there are only two Cobras (a Willment Coupe and the HEM-6) at the start and two Ferraris - two LMs: Maranello's for Graham Hill and Piper's.
At the start, with Graham Hill on the pole, it's raining the proverbial cats and dogs.
As the track becomes less like a lake, Jack Sears is able to use some of the power of his Willment Cobra Roadster, passing Roger Mac and taking the lead.
The Willment Cobra Daytona Coupe places 1st

October 21, 1964 - This is the third year that British drivers show at the Daily Rand Nine Hours of Kyalami. Willment Cobra Daytona Coupe places 5th

What the hell is the above Cobra doing with a frickin' LUGGAGE RACK?
