The eclectic Lee Roy Hartung Collection of automobiles, motorcycles and memorabilia was gathered over the past 50 years by the Chicago collector.

Mr. Hartung dealt in scrap metal, sold used cars and maintained a hauling business that aided his hobby. After a garage fire destroyed an antique bicycle collection, Mr. Hartung in 1972 built a 10,000-square-foot barn on his four-acre property and spent the next several decades stuffing it with treasures

Mr. Hartung operated the space as a museum by appointment only. In it, he stored about 80 cars, 40 motorcycles, 100 bicycles and thousands of pieces of automobilia. He had what experts called one of the most complete collections of license plates in the United States

A 1912 Harley-Davidson Single-Cylinder Belt Drive, believed to be among the best 1912 examples in the world, brought $115,000.
original bicycles were highlighted by a like-new 1934 Iver Johnson, an Elgin Bluebird and a Schwinn Aerocycle, which individually sold for $5,175 each.

Great look inside the Harley Davidson museum with photos, captions and information at galenfrysinger.com

the oil was in glass bottles during the war due to metal shortages.
all these are just a brief glimpse of the gallery that is a through look at the museum, the full webpage is at http://www.galenfrysinger.com/milwaukee_harleydavidson_museum.htm

Motorcycles, sidecars and an Indian Servicar

1916 Oregon plates on the front
Cool oil sumps on the island
 All optioned up
First time I've seen an Indian Servicar, but also interesting is the Packard Service sign's shape
1924 police, and interesting sidecar windshield
1926 Batimore taxi. Pretty cool, but I think history demonstrates this didn't work out
found on The Old Motor.com http://theoldmotor.com/

A variety of snowmachines from The Old Motor

What some used to do with their Harleys in the winter
Cat tracked and hydraulic rammed with solid front tires.
Wow, land train... I can't recall seeing one before. Very cool
either a homemade snow machine from car parts, or a conversion kit...  in front of the woman on the right is a door I think, and behind her the body seems to have some sheet metal going up the side from the frame

harley drawings from 1918, some with sidecars

I can't see much that is different in the above and below, just the luggage rack over the back wheel

Looked through onthelosthighway.tumblr

Great home built kart... get a look at the steering wheel! Photo was taken by John Gutman, in Georgia, 1937 http://www.johngutmann.org/viewer/index.html and incredibly, ridethemachine.tumblr posted this yesterday... but I found it on "onthelosthighway.tumblr" today

The look of a maniac, ain't that a grin!
Dangerous and deadly racing.
http://onthelosthighway.tumblr.com/ is a guy who took these photos of his dad, and his dad's 1924 original and untouched Harley Davidson
http://onthelosthighway.tumblr.com/ is mostly tattoos, it's NSFW, but it also has a lot of respect for Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and Babe Ruth.

Sidecars and motorbikes

The above was a young woman named Della Crewe who decided to drive from Waco Texas to New York with her dog Trouble in 1915. It was 5300 some odd miles.

Also notable for being a Harley with a sidecar, ... but these are different sidecars

the above and below are ambulance sidecars

1951 Panhead at El Mirage, going to break the class speed record

that headlight cover? Is a braincase helmet, and just the right size to cover the tach. brilliant
The two filler caps, are on seperate tanks, one is oil, the other is the fuel... only came on one Harley that way... I can't recall the year he told me, might have been the 1943 model

The Indian vs Harley (pre 1965) rivalry is going to be the focus of a race this week near Yosemite Park, California

This group consists of a pair of Indian Twins, three Excelsior Ace Fours, and at least one Harley Davidson, all ready for some real road racing on a public road.

For eighteen years Harley & Indian enthusiasts in Australia have been recreating the rivalry that was so much a part of motorcycling in the Twenties, Thirties, and Forties of the last century. In 2011 we are bringing that Rivalry home to America where the bikes were built! The Great Indian V Harley Race of 2011 will be based in Oakhurst California, right on the doorstep to Yosemite.

During the ride we will have checkpoints, timed mileage sections and other challenges. At each checkpoint the rider will be earning points for his brand of motorcycle. At the end of our event we will gather for a banquet feast and crown the race victor and who will receive bragging rights for the next year, as the winner of the great race.

Event Registration fee: $185.00

All bikes must be 1965 & older, and older bikes will now receive an incentive!

1940-1965 Models - No Bonus Points

1920-1929 Models - 20% Bonus added to your point total
